This is based on a painting by Vincent van Gogh, whose night paintings, including Starry Night, emphasize the importance he placed on capturing the sparkling colors of the sky and artificial lighting from gas lights. The overlapping layers of short brush strokes give the effect of movement in the sky and shimmering water. A simple technique that is very effective!
